I tend to go silent when something doesn’t make me feel good, upsets me or hurts me. When someone else notices the shift in my energy, they tend to ask what’s happening. Choosing silence at first isn’t a form of avoidance. Some of us need to process our emotions first

But it isn’t just that we need space to process how we feel, some of us also have a hard time sharing our voice, expressing ourselves.

Some of us grew up in environments where out of survival, staying quiet was the smartest decision. A lot of people have tried to silence us too -
Our voice didn’t seem to matter for the longest time so we got used to suppressing it, we got used to dealing with everything alone, to not sharing what we were going through.

A lot of people also have tried to invalidate our emotions, or people just don’t listen to us -
Often times expressing our voice or sharing how we feel can become a burden for others. They don’t want to hear it, and/or they make us feel like we’re disrupting the peace.

It gets to the point where you start to wonder if you should just learn to keep it all to yourself -
But baby the answer is a big no.

You will feel a knot inside your throat or even in your heart space every time you want to communicate how you feel about something or simple share your voice. But do it anyways.
Don’t let the world silence you more -
Surrounding ourselves with people that can give us that space at first while we process it and find the courage to speak up even when that knot in our throat makes it difficult and our mind starts wondering if we’re doing the right thing, is highly important

Patience and gentleness is highly important too. From others & ourselves. Understanding is important too, but others are not forced to understand why that happens to us. Forcing us to speak up immediately doesn’t help. We need to be in environments where we’re met with compassion
