Standing in Solidarity with University of Maine Graduate Students
As a proud union member, learn why graduate students at the University of Maine deserve access to the same health plan as faculty and staff, and why they should be given fair wages and better working conditions.

As a proud union member (@AFUM5), I stand in solidarity with University of Maine graduate students as they organize to fight for fair wages, better working conditions, and equitable benefits! https://t.co/5ANgXWHtYE

The graduate students at @UMaine provide foundational support for our research and teaching mission, yet stipends have not kept pace with the increased cost of living. Many students must take on loans or outside work as housing costs, food, and energy bills skyrocket.

Graduate student workers deserve access to the same health plan as @UMaine faculty and staff. Currently, the university only covers half the cost of their premiums, and they are billed >$2500 (a month before their first paycheck!) for a plan that doesn't cover vision or dental.

As a grad student at UW Madison, I was a proud member of @TAA_Madison. Thanks to their bargaining, I had access to a health plan for <$50/month for my entire family. This meant I could focus on my teaching, research, and education, and not on deciding between my health and rent.

Graduate student workers deserve the same labor rights, protections, and benefits as faculty, part-time faculty, and staff at @UMaine. Please support them in their fight for their rights! Solidarity forever! pic.twitter.com/s2dNOPJyPM
