The Dangers of Seed Oils: The LA Veterans Study
This blog discusses the 8-year double blind randomized controlled trial of the LA Veterans Study, which found that while seed oils did reduce heart disease mortality, cancer deaths in the seed oil group skyrocketed. Learn more about the potential dangers of seed oils here.

this is one of the most revealing studies on the dangers of seed oils: the la veterans study

8 year double blind randomized controlled trial:
1) one group ate their normal diet.
2) the other group substituted all the saturated fat for vegetable oils..

the seed oils did reduce heart disease mortality (but even these conclusions are suspect which I will get into)

however, cancer deaths in the seed oil group skyrocketed, especially after the 2nd year in the trial
31 people died from cancer in the seed oil group vs 17 in sat fat pic.twitter.com/uBqdXB2K0O -
why is this so concerning?

what's clear from this study is that the carcinogenic effects of seed oils may take years to manifest. the authors even suggested that going forward studies should be at least 8 years or longer.
but very few studies are longer than 12 months today -
but in the 60s and 70s health authorities didn't feel like they had time to waste and hastily rushed into a decision to recommend these oils

as a result, WE have become the experimental population ...and the results have been absolutely devastating -
regarding the heart disease mortality, how did it possibly decrease in the seed oil group?

2 explanations:
1) there were twice as many heavy smokers in the saturated fat group and even so they had fewer cancer deaths
2) the vegetable oil diet had 10 TIMES the vitamin E content pic.twitter.com/rbjonp86oP -
what are my takeaways:

1. seed oils exert their damage over the long term. you can't evaluate their impact in a study < 1 year because they accumulate in your tissues
2. the myopic focus on heart disease mortality has obfuscated the other disastrous effects of these oils -
3. vitamin E is critical to protecting against the oxidative stress...even if you're eating saturated fats, you should make sure to consume adequate amounts of vitamin E

4. stop gambling on your health with this toxic seed oil sludge
