Your beloved avocado toast is funding Mexican DRUG CARTELS

So if you disrespect seed oils, I have news for you:
Avocado oil is also garbage.
Here's why: pic.twitter.com/tQCHdS65EP -
Avocado oil gaining popularity just goes to show how far we've come.

More and more, people recognize seed oils are bad.
And that's good. But there's a problem:
Most avocado oil is complete trash. And that's not just a figure of speech... -
A 2020 study testing 22 different types of avocado oil came to a shocking conclusion:
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
15 of the 22 were rancid. And even worse...
6 were cut with cheaper alternatives.
You guessed it:
Seed oils.
Soybean or safflower based on the analysis.
But the nail in the coffin? -
3 of those offending samples contained 100% soybean oil.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
What does that mean for the kid with a soy allergy?
It's evidence of one thing:
We really have no idea what they are putting in factory-made food. -
Unfortunately, this isn't a new problem.

If you've looked into olive oil, you know the same mislabeling problems run rampant.
It comes down the fact that putting a lesser oil in an expensive bottle is highly profitable. -
And if you think big food conglomerates aren't trustworthy, then what about drug cartels?
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
That's right, avocado farming is big business, and the cartels in Mexico have cashed in as a way to diversify their business lines and launder money. pic.twitter.com/cfKJHNUyKM -
Some say the solution is federally enforced standards for olive oil and avocado oil.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
Ensuring the oil contains pure avocadoes would be great.
But is that enough? -
Avocado oil by its very nature is a waste product.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
Unlike olives, which are only profitable when used to make olive oil, avocadoes are insanely profitable.
Rich Americans eat them up.
Why waste a perfectly good $2 avocado to turn into oil?
Thing is, they don't. -
Avocadoes are fragile fruits, and many are wasted throughout the supply chain.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
These rotten, leftover avocadoes are the ones used to make the oil.
Like many "health foods", avocado oil is a classic tale of food industry alchemy, turning garbage into gold. -
And when there's this much money on the line, the sad reality is that no one cares.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
Not the drug cartels
Not the food companies
Not the bottling plants
Not the grocery stores
There are simply oo many steps in the supply chain, and you have to trust everyone along the way. -
Instead, there is a better solution.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
Use real fats and oils that are easy to verify.
Extra virgin olive oil, verified by any of the trade organizations that take it seriously.
Grass fed butter from a local farm.
And beef tallow from your local rancher. -
You know what you're getting, and they taste better too.
— Tan Man (@reallytanman) March 1, 2023
That's why when I created @Masa_Chips, much to the chagrin of the vegan community, I decided to use beef tallow.
I can find it from domestic farms, instead of importing it from across the world.
