🔷 Running Too Fast (All the Time)
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Not every run has to end with you as a sweaty slobbering mess.
That leads to burnout and injury.
Instead, go hard 1x/week.
The rest should be low-effort jogging/walking.
Because the truth is...
The slower you run, the farther you'll go. -
🔷 Running Too Far Too Quickly
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
You can't go from the couch to a marathon tomorrow (unless you're David Goggins).
It could take months or even years to reach your running goal.
Focus on gradually building time on your feet.
Each small step gets you closer to the destination. https://t.co/pHLsvfg6nH -
🔷 No Targeted Strength Training
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Bicep curls make you look buff.
But they don't do much for your running.
The key is to start from the ground up:
• Feet / ankles
• Calves / shins
• Quads / hamstrings
• Hips / glutes and core
Here are some simple exercises I swear by: https://t.co/8yIi9auqU6 -
🔷 Not Cross Training
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Running is hard on your body and it takes a long time to adapt.
So, supplement with something less impactful to get a better result.
You can:
• Row
• Bike
• Hike
• Swim
• Play sports
The paradox is the best way to run more is to run less. -
🔷 Eating Crap
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
You can't outwork a poor diet.
You have to give the body what it needs to recover well.
Reframe food as fuel.
That doesn't mean it has to be complicated or taste terrible.
Here's my go-to post-exercise fuel: https://t.co/DDLlgKgsZo -
🔷 Binge Drinking
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Earning the weekend by working out is stupid if you spend the weekend pounding drinks late into the night.
Alcohol destroys your sleep and recovery.
If you want to make progress as a runner (or as a human being) limit the booze. -
🔷 Not Prioritizing Sleep
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Sleep is a superpower.
It's the best performance-enhancing drug ever (and it's free).
"Sleeping when you're dead" only means you'll be dead sooner.
Here are some simple tips to help you get better sleep: https://t.co/D5zZkJwVSM -
🔷 Not Hydrating Enough
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Many of us are chronically dehydrated.
This can lead to:
• Fatigue
• Headaches
• Lack of focus
• Muscle weakness
• Kidney, heart, and digestive problems
Most people need an ounce of water per pound of weight per day (more if you are exercising). -
🔷 Not Listening to My Body
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
If you feel worn down, you may be overtrained and need to take a break.
If you have nagging, persistent pain, you may need to change modes of exercise or see a doctor/PT.
Don't just blow through your body's signals. You'll end up hurt. -
🔷 Comparison to Others
— Jeremy Singh (@singhcredible) June 15, 2023
Seeing others succeed can make you feel bad if you think you should be doing what they are.
Instead of comparing yourself to them, compare yourself to an earlier version of you.
And when you see others crushing it, use that as inspiration. -
