In light of it almost being St. Patrick’s day, I wanted to share this fun fact:

If you happen to have one of these @GuinnessIreland t-shirts with a Gaelic label, there’s a good chance you’re wearing the label from my family’s pub! /1 pic.twitter.com/7t6gxMPcqY -
Tí Chairbre (Carberry’s Pub) was built over 133 years ago by my great great grandfather in Drogheda. It was passed to my great grandfather, who moved to the US so his elder sister could inherit the pub and land and take care of the family after his mother died. /2 pic.twitter.com/VMSbREVa2t

Caitlín Bean Uí Chairbre, my great aunt, ran the pub and turned it into a well known place for traditional Irish music. /3 pic.twitter.com/hlsQp0jHSe

Back in the day, every bar used to bottle their own Guinness in the basement with their own labels. Our pub had one of the few Gaelic labels in circulation, as my family were fierce defendants of keeping the language alive, speaking it continuously when it was illegal to do so /4 pic.twitter.com/CxXsEk3Av5

The pub has been run by women ever seen Caitlin, with her daughters Roisin and Aine taking over. It was never modernized. There are no cash registers, just bowls for coins. We had a family reunion there in 2016. /5 pic.twitter.com/ryY0VvyLBd

Unfortunately Roisin passed from cancer a few years back at 61. She wanted her ashes placed above the bar for all those to visit her.

She was extremely spiritual and mystical, telling me all about the fairies hanging out around town when we all got together. /6 pic.twitter.com/vP0R02oMJ6 -
So if you’re wearing your Guinness shirt on March 17, and you notice it’s the label from our pub, keep Carberry’s in mind and the women who have kept it going ❤️
