1/I have a theory: one of the many reasons why a lot of entrepreneurs (and I'd also add DEI and UX folks) end up giving up in their pursuits is because their "why" is anchored in passion, when instead it should be anchored in a vision.

2/Passion isn't enough to get you through the seasons of discouragement, lack of progress, frustration, and crisis. But having your "why" anchored to a vision, allows you to be creative and flexible in how you're going to get there and experience/achieve that vision.

3/For me, my "why"/vision has always been anchored in this: I want to help people be/feel more free. And because of that, it's given me a lot of freedom in pursuit of that vision: Therapist>UX Researcher> Research/Innovation Consultant>@hmntycntrd > Working on a CBD Tea business

4/And that's just career.

Because this vision also challenges me to:
🧠 Invest in my mental / emotional health (shoutout to therapy🙌🏾)
👋🏾 Release relationships that are no longer compatible with the more healed version of me -

😓 Choose the pain of discipline over the pain of regret
🙏🏾 Commit to rituals of hope and curiosity (e.g. prayer, reading books, studying new topics, etc) -
6/Lately I've been thinking about civil rights leader John Lewis. In his book "Across That Bridge," he talks about how someone asked him if the wrongful imprisonments and the horrific beatings weakened his hope and faith in what could be. He said no — it only strengthened it.

7/Only a "why" anchored in vision could evoke such a response.

And so my encouragement for you is to get clear on your "why" and the vision behind it. Clarity isn't going to make the journey easier but it'll make it more sustainable.
