I have completely changed my mind about "training" inside a corporate setting.

I used to think that the best way to arbitrage the market was to hire smart, junior employees and spend a bunch of time and resource in training them.
But I think I was very wrong...🧵 -
I used La Masia (Barcelona's football academy) and the Astros investment in player development as my model for this idea.

But I missed a really crucial fact about both of those systems.
Only the most talented people in the world get the opportunity to be trained. -
They aren't teaching the basics of soccer or baseball to good athletes in those systems.

They are taking the most talented individuals in the world and giving them immense amounts of resource to develop. -
Now they arbitrage the market by starting both systems really young thus avoiding free agency costs for more mature players.

BUT the starting point is still really, really high. -
Additionally they give players YEARS in their farm systems before they are expected to contribute at the professional level.

Small companies don't have this luxury. -
They need players to contribute as quickly as possible so they can generate a return on investment that protects their limited cash.

I want people that come to CTC and immediately make it better based on their existing talent and experience and then I want to layer on our unique methodology, massive data set and surrounding talent to allow that rock start to keep improving.

I'll let you know how it goes in 5 years.
