Today's birds so far: pileated woodpecker, tree swallows, song sparrows, eastern phoebe, killdeer, green-winged teals, buffleheads, wood ducks, ring-necked ducks, hooded mergansers, & an utterly haunting eastern meadowlark I heard but couldn't spot. This will be my quest.

All this against a constant backdrop of canada geese, grackles, red-winged blackbirds & american robins.

IT WAS IN A *TREE*!!!!! -
Other birds glimpsed in trees today in ways that produce cognitive dissonance: wood ducks & a great blue heron. (Almost positive I saw a ruffed grouse in a tree yesterday but it was too far off to be sure)

Also I am in love with savannah sparrows now. Their yellow eye spots! Their crickety singing! Their little tch-tch call!

anyway I think I am actually becoming cognitively impaired by the pleasure I am getting from seeing birds, I may need to put myself into a closet in order to write today NO WAIT A KINGFISHER
