It's called Lemon8 - and is being described as a TikTok x Instagram x Pinterest hybrid.
Per @SensorTower, the app is seeing ~60k daily downloads. Here's what it is ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/DTiDAS8gEE -
First of all, Lemon8 actually isn't new - just new to the U.S..

The app was launched in 2020 in markets including Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam - and grew to a monthly active user base of ~4M.

What do users do on the app? Similar to TikTok, there's two feeds, "For You" and "Following."

You can also browse by topic - ex. fashion, beauty, food, wellness, etc.
Posts appear as rectangular tiles on these feeds, and are also saved on the poster's profile. pic.twitter.com/aqXZzD1Ebx -
Each post is a swipeable carousel of photos and videos, usually focused on one topic - ex. "Van Cleef inspired jewelry dupes." 👇

Major use cases right now include:

- How-tos
- Routines (morning, wellness, fitness, etc.)
- Dupe recommendations
- "Must have" products
Users can't link products for purchases in posts yet - but I would imagine this is coming soon! pic.twitter.com/u7bNTzAvb0 -
For now, Lemon8 is topic-focused vs. friend-focused. You can follow users, but there's no contact book integration.

I would imagine they're using a similar algo to TikTok to hypercurate posts from what you engage with 👀
I'm curious to see how the app evolves!
