The Attitude that Got $ Back from an Exploiter
This blog discusses the attitude and resilience of a group of people who managed to get back money from an exploiter. They talked to and listened to people who had done it before, got help, and worked with the FBI and legal counsel. This attitude was the key to their success.

Before I forget, I want to share some things I observed here w/ the hopes it helps other teams facing an exploit in the future.

IMHO, the single most valuable thing the Euler team did was fully *own* the responsibility of getting the funds returned. And they never gave up. https://t.co/yZEha1OThj -

But their attitude was that no one else was going to get the funds returned so they better get them returned. -
This attitude, esp. when combined with them always re-focusing on the end goal of doing right by those who had lost $, is what ultimately made them flexible enough + resilient enough to connect with the exploiter initially, and keep communicating with him over the ensuing weeks.

There were so many times where things seemed hopeless. There were times when folks (including me) spoke off-the-cuff about past incidents w/o realizing we were basically shitting on their hopes & dreams. π π π

But nothing deterred them. At every turn, it was like: pic.twitter.com/O9Ak6RlJMn -
Any number of things couldve shifted the course of history and no one wouldve blamed the team if the funds weren't fully returned.

It would've been way easier for them to say, "welp, its DPRK, its a lost cause" or "welp, exploiter went cold" or "welp, just waiting for the FBI" -
But taking the easy road never gets these types of epic outcomes. This wasnt luck or a magical set of circumstances aligning.

You make your own fate.
And that's what the team did. They didn't expect anyone to make their fate for them.
And then they made their own fate.
